Discombobulate

It doesn't happen often but once in a while I run into a brand new word. I've never heard of this one before today but someone actually used it in a posting:

discombobulate

What a great word! It rolls off the tongue nice and rhythmically. Can't wait to drop that into a conversation: "I've been discombobulated!" or "what a discombobulation!"

  2. Nope. The word is linked to the MSN Encarta dictionary (that's why it's light blue like all the other links). Just click on it and you'll get the definition, pronunciation, origin and all that.

But if you insist, here's a definition from a different source (WordNet):

v 1: cause to be confused emotionally [syn: bewilder, bemuse, throw] 2: be confusing or perplexing to; cause to be unable to think clearly; "These questions confuse even the experts"; "This question completely threw me"; "This question befuddled even the teacher"

    Sorry for the discombobulation :-)

  3. Discombobulate! It is a great word... in fact, one of my favorites. Actually, at the moment I am doing an essay about the word, and with some research I have found it to be very interesting. Type it in in google and see what you get. ;)
